popYOUlaritly Dave interview

popYOUlarity:For those that have never heard of Wave before, introduce yourself and say one interesting thing about you.
Dave:My Name is Dave Thompson and I am 5"3'

popYOUlarity:What was it like touring with the Psykoblast?
Dave:A lot of fun. Lot of fun with the other guys of the other bands. We got to know each other very well, so that's cool!

popYOUlarity:Would you ever do it again?
Dave:Yeah. Next summer or next month! Anytime!

popYOUlarity:Karin from Vancouver says: Hey I met you on the Psykoblast Cruise. I'm sure the first show (Vancouver) must have been very memorable. What were your feelings as you hit the stage and the crowd went nuts?
Dave:It was the same thing as every show. I just get anxious until I get out there. It's like you walk out and play your songs. The set goes by so quick. It's over before you know it.

popYOUlarity:Do you get nervous?
Dave:I don't get nervous, like shaking and "Oh my God!" It's more of a "Let's go!" It's more of an adrenaline rush.

popYOUlarity:The Vancouver O-town concert has been postponed. Are you still opening for O-town at the re-scheduled show?
Dave:Not sure. No Clue.

popYOUlarity:What has been the most surprising aspect of your career so far?
Dave:The sudden impact of the song- how it took off so quickly. That was awesome.

popYOUlarity:What is it like to hear yourself on the radio?
Dave:Now I'm used to it. Now, I change it. I'm like "Sick of that song!" (laughs) No, it's pretty cool. It's pretty gratifying to to hear your song on the radio.

popYOUlarity:These next two questions were submitted by chee.
popYOUlarity:If there was a movie done on the story of your life, who would you chose to play your character and why?
Dave:Steven Dorff. He's my favorite actor.

popYOUlarity:If you could get rid of one of your five senses, which would you chose?
Dave:Probably sight. That's the only one that if you lost it, you could still play an instrument.

popYOUlarity:How long have you been playing the guitar for?
Dave:Since I was 13.
popYOUlarity:What has been your craziest fan encounter so far?
Dave:(laughs) There was a girl who when we came last time she met us at the airport. She bought me a cd and all that..and she was really cool! She was really nice. She came to two of the shows. Every show I'd sign maybe like ten autographs each day. Then when I got home, or when I was in Saskatchewan checking my email, she sent me this email about not coming over to her and signing an autograph.
popYOUlarity:(laughs)
Dave:I had to go inside and she was with a couple other friends. I was like I'll come back. I think I did go back, but she sent me this email saying "you're too cool" to come over and sign an autograph. I was like-you've been to two shows, met me at the airport, probably got ten signatures of mine and you're still writing an email saying that?
popYOUlarity:(laughs) That is a little too obsessive!
Dave:(laughs) Yeah, it's like: You are nuts!

popYOUlarity:How many songs did you write on “Nothing as it seems?”
Dave:Me personally co-wrote 7. Between Paul and I, eight.

popYOUlarity:Who does more of the writing?
Dave:I don't think anyone..
popYOUlarity:It's like a joint thing?
Dave:Yeah..
popYOUlarity:Do you sit and write together?
Dave:Yeah! But, most of the time it's a song somebody has an idea for and bring it in or the three of us- Paul, Ben and I will sit down and sorta finish it.

popYOUlarity:What was the recording process like?
Dave:You've got all these people in one room focusing on one song and everybody has a different vision of it. We're all sort of the same, but because we all have our different ideas, it can get pretty tense at times. But, that's what being creative is I think- that tension that you get. The push and pull between whoever is in the room. It's cool.

popYOUlarity:Do you plan on writing more for upcoming albums?
Dave:Yeah, we'll see!

popYOUlarity:How do you feel fame has changed your life? Do you feel it has changed it for the better or for the worse?
Dave:Oh, for the better! I don't think anyone can complain in this job! The only difference is how when I go home and go out doing the same things I usually do, about every ten minutes, I'm stopping to sign an autograph. That's the only sort of new aspect to that. It's wicked.

popYOUlarity:Do you have anything you would like to say to the readers of our magazine?
Dave:Yeah (laughs) Look both ways before you cross the street for sure. Vancouver is awesome. I'd move out here in a second.
